People in Philly loved to complain about Occupy Philly—and particularly about their hygiene. But who else is going to venture into needle-strewn, Oxy-addled Kensington and make green space a priority? Occupy Vacant Lots, an Occupy Philly spinoff, is now working with Philly Food Forests to build a garden on Willard Street near Jasper, with the hope that residents will grow organic food and build community spirit. The vague structure that was there before—a pile of masonry stones—drew drug users and prostitutes and was called the "hotel" by locals. Organic parsnips will probably be better. [DN]
