Mayor Nutter is talking about planning this evening along with Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Alan Greenberger and Gary Jastrzab, the Executive Director of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission. Two district plans will be open to comment—one for Lower South and the other for West Park .
To remind you, the Lower South District includes the Stadium Complex, Navy Yard and the Food Distribution Center. According to the city's Comprehensive Plan, the issues for Lower South include "encouraging the growth and mixed-use development of the Navy Yard and Sports Complex, while meeting the needs of the port and other industries"; transportation; multi-use recreation trails; mass transit serving the Navy Yard; and highway access for industries and the port.
West Park includes East Parkside, West Parkside, Cathedral Park, Wynnefield, Belmont Village, Wynnefield Heights, Overbrook Farms, Green Hill Farms and Overbrook Park. Issues there are enhancing access to nearby parkland; town and gown concerns; high vehicular traffic; walkability; and historic preservation.
