So concludes the first ever Curbed Cup contest for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. You, dear readers, nominated the neighborhoods you thought should be included in the contest. We included those neighborhoods that got the most nominations. Biggest surprise? Not enough nominations for Northern Liberties or Chestnut Hill.
As for neighborhood names and boundaries, they are subject to debate. Sadly, there simply isn't one master list of Philadelphia neighborhoods that is kept up to date and makes sense—perhaps because it's impossible to do so given discrepancies between colloquial, postal, historic and civic association use. In this contest, we deferred to nominator names and definitions, but this has caused some Passyunk angst. So when we say "East Passyunk" here, we are referring to East Passyunk Crossing.
