There were some particularly nasty battles in yesterday's primary election, and one of them ended in the unseating of a longtime incumbent, state Rep. Babette Josephs, who represented the 182nd District. That District encompassed a wide swath of city influence, including sections of Bella Vista, Rittenhouse Square, Fitler Square, the Gayborhood, Logan Square, Fairmount, Hawthorne, Spring Garden, Graduate Hospital and Washington West. Though Josephs has always had strong support from the LGBT community, the man who beat her, Brian Sims, will now be the first openly gay legislator in the state. [Newsworks]
