Foursquare: Rittenhouse Is One of 10 Most Popular Parks

Foursquare, a popular mobile app that allows smartphone users to indicate where they are at a given moment—by "checking in" to a geographic location—provided a list of the most popular parks in the U.S. to Travel + Leisure this month. The company based its rankings on the number of "check-ins" at each park between August 2011 to August 2012.

Six of the top 10 are New York parks, while Rittenhouse Square comes in at No. 10 on the list. Foursquare doesn't provide exact numbers of check-ins, but Rittenhouse Square gets more check-ins than the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco or the National Mall in Washington, D.C. In the latter case, that's probably because the majority of visitors to the National Mall are looking at the world instead of a screen.

As for T+L's list of America's Dirtiest Cities, also released this month, Philadelphia was even higher in the top 10!
