Sale Pending on Gospel Singer Willa Ward's Broad Street Home

Willa Ward, who was eulogized in this New York Times obit when she died last summer, was a member of the Philly-based Ward Singers, a hugely successful gospel group that was active from the 1940s to the '70s and best known for Willa's sister, Clara.

The family home on North Broad Street went up for sale when Willa died, and despite its unique place in Philadelphia gospel history, was priced at a low, low $79,000—perhaps because, well, a look at the interior says it all.

If this sale goes through, let's hope the new owner preserves at least a Ward Singers grace note or two. Maybe the piano?
