Insurance Fraud Decor: Dentist Owen Rogal's Rittenhouse Pad

New, 11 comments

It was a long time coming: Last year the the Philly DA's Office charged dentist Owen Rogal and his daughter Kim with bilking private insurance companies out of $5 million from their Pain Center on the corner of 12th and Lombard—that modernist brick building with the gigantic white and red sign on it. The two ADAs who worked on the case won national and international awards for the work—probably because, as one commenter wrote on Philadelphia Speaks, "they finally got him!"
Rogal's business practices were questioned as long ago as 1989, when he was profiled on 20/20 by John Stossel (who still isn't tired of being John Stossel!). Rogal sued ABC for libel for presenting him as a "charlatan," and not only lost the case, but was fined by the court for perjury. Since then, he's been the subject of multiple lawsuits.

According to public record, he bought this Rittenhouse Hotel condo in 1992 and decked it out like Flavor Flav grills (or maybe just mercury fillings). Life there was nice. He had gorgeous views of the skyline, particularly the illuminated city at night. He enjoyed a "dual fireplace supported by a glass wall with mantles in the bedroom and living area," which is somewhat difficult to envision but sounds like it was very specifically requested. He had custom closets and "power blinds." Fortunately for buyers, all those features are still there.
