A mixed-use affordable housing development at the intersection of Fairmount and Ridge avenues is nearing completion. It appears that construction crews are putting the finishing touches on the building, which will house 55 apartments (34 will be studios, and 19 will be one bedrooms,) and about 15,000 sq ft of ground floor retail space.
When ground broke for the project last fall, the projected completion date was November 2013, and it appears that it's right on schedule. They're already looking for retail tennants, and most of the exterior work is done. According to McDonald Building Co, the development will soon seek LEED Silver certification.
Project H.O.M.E. offers a simple, effective solution to homelessness: affordable housing. Though 55 affordable apartments won't be enough to house everyone in the city who needs a home, it's a great step toward making a change in the city with a simple, common sense effort to make housing affordable and accessible to people who need it.
