New Mixed Use Buildings Coming to 1100 Block of Chestnut

On Wednesday night, the Zoning Borad of Appeals approved a project which would demolish two buildings and rehabilitate one on the 1100 block of Chestnut Street. In place of the two demolished buildings, Brickstone will construct a new seven story mixed use building.

Both the new seven story building and the old, rehabbed building will contain 40 one and two bedroom apartments and retail space on the first two floors. The speed of the project's approval might have something to do with the current state of the block. According to The Philadelphia Real Estate Blog, zoning board chair Carol Tinari said "Something really needs to happen on that block".

Brickstone has already applied for demolition permits and hope to begin work within the next few months.
