Construction at 4812 Baltimore Avenue is moving along: the once-vacant lot used as a community garden is now a busy construction site. The proposed building went before the Zoning Committee of the Cedar Park Neighbors association with a very contemporary looking design. After receiving suggestions from neighbors, the developers agreed to make the new building blend in better, and to enlarge the first floor commercial space.
The new plans for the building include five apartments in a four story building, and a commercial space below. The building will be four feet shorter than originally planned, but will still include multiple decks.
Much of the debate about this building centered around not disrupting the Victorian character of the Cedar Park neighborhood, but some neighbors were also concerned about having a five unit building in an area where most structures are single family, or converted single family homes.
One thing is for sure: new residential development is on the rise on and around Baltimore Avenue. Although this project is of a much smaller scale than 4224 Baltimore, an in progress project which would include 108 rental units and as many as 55 resident owned condos.
