If you've turned on the news lately, you've probably heard the word 'sequester' over and over again. To sum it up, if Congress can't reach a deal on a new federal budget by Friday, $1.2 trillion in automatic spending cuts will kick in automatically. Government employees would be among the hardest hit, and the historic attractions in the Independence Mall area could take a beating. If a new budget isn't reached soon, expect operating hours to be decreased at several landmarks with the possibility of mandatory furlough days for government employees.
Hardest hit could be Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell as park officials consider eliminating extended summer hours. It could be a quiet summer in Old City.
