Sticking it to the Royal Theater, Literally

On Tuesday, a neighboring landowner filed a petition to appoint a conservator for the Royal Theater under Act 135. The Royal Theater, Philly's first Black-owned theater, was built in 1920, has fallen into a state of dangerous disrepair. After news of the petition broke on Philadelinquency, activity picked up at the Royal Theater: workers were observed moving in and out of the building. But that's not all: below the jump, see video footage of other activity at the site.

The petition, now stuck to the theater itself, puts the building's fate in the balance. Whether or not Ori Feibush is awarded conservatorship, the petition might spell better days and rehabilitation for the historic theater.
