Axis Philly takes a look at the demographic makeup of the building trades unions in Philly, and the results, while unsurprising, are pretty stark: 99% of union laborers are men, 74% are white, and 70% of them live outside of Philly. Though Mayor Nutter and other city officials have successfully pushed for more work for non-white, non-male laborers on city-funded jobs, building trades unions are still essentially segregated.
