One of the most important determining factors for many Philly homebuyers has nothing to do with the home itself and everything to do with the catchment it lies within. The struggling Philly school district is underfunded, but there are still some excellent public schools out there, and parents will often pay high premiums to live in those catchment areas. Here are some mapping tools that demystify catchments.
School Finder is an interactive tool put out by the Philadelphia School District last year that shows color coded catchment areas. There's also a search function that will match a specific address to a school catchment, and display the school location.
The Center City District also put out a map specifically for Center City parents. Though it's not searchable, it does cover a relatively small area, and is therefore pretty easy to read and understand.
