Here's a cool video taken by Bernard J. Scally of the Roxborough Review from today's groundbreaking ceremony of the Manayunk Bridge. Last time we checked in on the project, the construction contract was awarded to A.P. Construction Inc. in early June, with an official shovels-in-dirt event for the many stakeholders to take place in September. Meh, so what that i'ts late-October, you know how these things get held up!
The half-mile trail will fuse the Schuylkill River Trail (and Manayunk) with the Cynwyd Heritage Trail in Lower Merion and also be another link in the impressive 750-mile pedestrian/bicycle chain that is The Circuit. Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP is the design lead on the project, expected to cost $4.12M. When completed in about a year's time, it promises to provide incredible 'floating' views of the Schuylkill River and surrounding area. We also expect it to be one of the go-to outdoor spaces in the city.
