Before Louis Kahn was the Louis Kahn, he worked with architect Alfred Kastner as his principal assistant in designing the New Deal town of Jersey Homesteads, New Jersey. The town, today known as Roosevelt, was one of 99 communities formed to counteract the effects of the Great Depression by providing opportunities for Americans to reach a better standard of living. Roosevelt was a factory, farm, and retail cooperative meant primarily for Jewish garment workers living in New York and Philadelphia's tenements. Curbed National shares the story of Roosevelt's origins and design, right this way. [Curbed National]
