'Rocky' Sequel Ramping Up, Scouting Possible Philly Locations

Get ready for an influx of 'Rocky'-fied stories in the next couple of months. 'Creed', the sequel to the legendary fight films, has been poking around different locations in Philadelphia for the new film. Molly Eichel of the Daily News reports that a casting call was held this weekend at South Philadelphia High School, where 500 people showed up to be extras in the film starring Sly and Michael B. Jordan as Apollo's grandson. While it's probably a safe bet we'll see the pre-Frank Gehry Art Museum Steps make an appearace, Eichel also dished about another potential location for filming that would tug at your heartstrings.

I hear that location scouts were checking out Laurel Hill Cemetery (3822 Ridge Ave.) as a potential place to shoot. "Rocky" devotees, of course, will remember that Rocky's wife, Adrian Balboa, played by Talia Shire in "Rocky" installments 1 to 5, is buried there. "People come from all over the world to see her headstone," said Laurel Hill's Bill Doran.
We have tears in our eyes just thinking about it — kind of. Laurel Hill is also the final resting place of Frank Furness, beloved Phillies Broadcaster Harry Kalas, Civil War General George Meade among others. The 74-acre burial ground was founded in 1836. · 'Rocky' sequel gets going [Daily News]
