Following a price chop this past September, Louis Kahn's Esherick house finally sold for $900K. Though the house is one of only nine private homes built according to plans by Kahn, it only has one bedroom, and was therefore a hard house to sell.
The house was originally put up for auction in 2008, but couldn't sell. It was then listed at $1.9M, and chopped to $1.5M in February of 2012. After more than a year on the market, the price was dropped to $1.25M in September of 2012 and $1.1M that December. The most recent price chop, in October of 2013, brought the price down to $975K, perhaps tempting the buyer that bought the place for a whole million less than the original asking price.
According to an anonymous tip, the new owners are "very happy" with their purchase. Goodbye, old friend: may you never languish on the market so long again.
