The New York Public Library just completed the herculean task of digitizing their collection of maps. Here are some gems that depict Philadelpha as it was in the 18th and 19th centuries, whimsical old-timey spelling included. All these maps are from The Lionel Pincus & Princess Firyal Map Division, The New York Public Library.
