South Philly School Conversion Will Include Market Rate and Affordable Housing

Metal Ventures Inc recently bought the former Childs School at 17th and Tasker from the School Reform Commission. Now they plan to create a mixed-income apartment building with 72 market rate apartments and12 affordable apartments. The

Councilman Kenyatta Johnson was involved with the sale, and a representative from his office said that the Councilman held meetings for different stakeholders in order to help everyone affected by the new development come to an agreement.

Part of that agreement is that Metal Ventures will create a new community room which will be available to the public upon request. Metal Ventures will also donate to the new Childs Elementary School as part of the agreement.
