Vote It Up: Who Will Fetch the Title of Philly's Best Dog Park?

New, 4 comments

Here it is folks, the moment you've all been waiting (or panting) for. It's time to announce the nominations for Philly's Best Dog Run, to be voted on by you, faithful owners of your favorite slobbering companion (and, not to mention, awesome readers of Curbed). The winners of this coveted title will be announced on Monday - so vote it up and spread the word!

Seger Dog Park, Washington Square West/South Street
This park is located within a few steps of the South Street Whole Foods and features a large, landscaped area for bigger doggies with plenty of places to sit to sit and relax or space to run with Sparky and Hoagie. There is also a smaller fenced in section for mini dogs. This is a great spot to dog watch as well as owner watch. Check their website for more info!

Schuylkill River Dog Park, Filter Square/Schuylkill River Park
Schuylkill River Dog Park offers a large space to let Patches and Guinness run around and meet some new friends. Britt nominated SRDP and says, "There are hoses to refill water bowls and prevent pups from overheating, big and small dog runs, and it's in a great neighborhood!" The coolest part is the bridge/terrace that connects to the Schuylkill River Trail and overlooks those dashing doggies at play. A great spot to hang, especially if you're don't have a dog and looking to see what pooch might be your next best friend. Hit up their website page for more info.

Palmer Doggie Depot, Fishtown
Palmer Doggie Depot in Fishtown is a wonderful place to take old Rex and Molly. Located just south of Shissler Rec Center, Palmer Doggie Depot opened in May 2013 much to the belight of nearby neighbors. As Allie noted when she nominated Palmer, "[the park has] great assortment of playful dogs and their friendly owners! Love taking our pup, Zooey, there! They have events from time to time for the pups and owners - most recently a "Yappy Hour." Hit up their Facebook Page for more pups!

Market Street Dog Run, Penn's Landing/Delaware River Waterfront
This is the newest park on the list and has fast become a dog-lovers favorite. Market Street Dog Run is filled with lovely, mature trees and plenty of places to sit and relax, inside and outside the park area. You're basically right on the water and a short walk/job to Race Street Pier or Spruce Street Harbor Park. If you're looking for the perfect pooch to call your own but don't quite know where to start, hang on the Market Street overpass and dog watch from above. We featured it just a little while ago on this very website.

Columbus Square Dog Park, East Passyunk Avenue/South Philly
The expression on this dog's face sums up the coolness of this park. There in the middle of a little bit of a design, having removed the huge tree stump that was a doggie favorite, but it's a great spot in South Philly to take Zadie or Stella. The dogs are friendly and it's just a short walk to all the best spots on East Passyunk Avenue. As Justin put it when nominating Columbus for the list, "Sure, it's not new like some other parks. And we aren't as fancy as some of the other spots, but we got good dogs, good people and a dedicated group of volunteers."
