With permits filed and demolition now "imminent," Hidden City takes a looks at the history of the former Coward Shoe Store — an early example of post-war Modernism located at 1118 Chestnut Street. In an attempt to "modernize main street," the building was designed by Oscar Stonorov and Louis I. Kahn in 1947 and was left to rot over the years on a (now) rapidly redeveloping Chestnut Street/Market East commercial corridor. [Hidden City, Photo: Bradley Maule]
