Exterior Pops as Interior Fizzles in This Mount Airy Colonial

New, 6 comments

This is a classic example of a house that would've wowed us had it been staged properly — especially for the price. First and foremost, it's a beautiful colonial in East Mount Airy coming in at 3,645 square feet with six bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths. It's also newly listed at $475,000, which seems like a good bang for your buck. There's a large yard that includes a cutesy stone path leading to a koi pond. Wonderful. Secondly, it's got all of the great features of a house built nearly 90 years ago, dark wood floors, clean stucco exterior, plenty of windows, exposed beams and a helluvalot of character. If only it had been staged better to help people see that this is a special property for a relatively low asking price these days. The bedrooms are drab and the kitchen and bathrooms need a total overhaul, something you'd probably overlook if you were wowed by a well staged living room that highlights the exposed beams and a wonderful fireplace. Seriously, throw some fresh flowers in a picture or two or fruit in a bowl in the kitchen for some color. Add a few modern touches to show us some new life in a beautiful old place. The outside pops while the inside kind of fizzles. You can see for yourself at the open house this Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.. Are we missing something or could this house show just a little better?
