You Call It: Should the Mummers Parade Switch Things Up?

New Year's Day is roughly 147 days away but there could be a major shift in how you ring in the festivities in 2015 — especially if you live in deep South Philly. The Mummers have asked city officials to switch up the parade route to start the show at City Hall and merry-make down South Broad Street and end at Washington Avenue. In case you're keeping track, yes, that cuts out a large chunk of the traditional route in South Philly from Washington to Oregon Avenue — you know, prime Mummers country. Fear not, Two Streeters, the post-parade parade in Pennsport will seemingly be unaffected. So why change the route? Here's what Tom Loomis, President of the Philadelphia String Band Association, told The Inquirer,

"Taking the stress and angst of the competition out of the way, and just marching from City Hall to Washington, we can now focus on just entertaining people," Loomis said. Let's put it out to you, do you mind the shift in parade route or should the Mummers still start their strut up South Broad at Oregon Avenue?
