Is a Large Gourmet Grocery Store Headed to Abbotts Square?

New, 2 comments

Take a look at this brochure from Legend Properties Inc. and tell us what you see. Do you happen to see a large grocery store in the corner unit of Abbotts Square with the words "Coming Soon" underneath a logo for Garden of Eden Marketplace? Currently, Garden of Eden only operate stores in New York City (and one in New Jersey), but it looks they could be on the way to Philadelphia, shacking up in the former Citibank space on South Street. According to their website, " Each Garden of Eden location is a culinary Mecca for savvy shoppers who demand the finest products and ingredients at the best prices." That sounds wonderful, but is one really going into the corner at 2nd and South Street, a few blocks from both Essene (the originator of the whole health food vibe) and the popular Whole Foods at 10th and South?

Chris Cordaro of EB Realty Management, the group that owns and manages Abbotts Square as well as other projects you may have heard about, told us a while back that, "Something very exciting is happening at Abbotts Square." He didn't elaborate any further, but could he have been alluding to possible plans for the large grocery store? It certainly looks like that could be the case. If you take a peek at the bottom of that PDF, the brochure states, "Information contained herein has been obtained from the Owner of the Property or from sources deemed reliable. We have no reason to doubt its accuracy but make no warranty or representation. All information is submitted subject to errors, omissions, changes, withdrawal without notice and any special listing conditions of the Owner." That's a pretty good indicator that this place is a go.

Hat tip to the reader who tipped us off to the PDF. Got a tip you want us to check out? Hit us up at the tipline philly@curbed.com and we'll be sure to give it a look-see.
