SEPTA Gets $87M Gift from U.S. Government for Protection

SEPTA knows how to rake in the dough, to the tune of $87 million. The Federal Transit Administration's emergency relief program will administer the grant for uses in seven areas.

Here the rundown of the planned budget allocation:


  • $18.7 million for railroad embankment and slope stabilization

  • $3.8 million for Sharon Hill flood mitigation

  • $32 million for railroad signal power reinforcement

  • $9 million for ancillary control center to allow emergency remote dispatching of transit service

  • $3.7 million for subway pump-room emergency power

  • $15 million for Jenkintown flood mitigation

  • $4.5 million for Manayunk/Norristown Line shoreline stabilization
