It's been a long time coming, but the future of 4601 Market St. is now much more clear. The site plan for the future home of the Public Service Safety Campus (PSSC) was presented to the Civic Design Review yesterday. The 15-acre property, which includes the massive 325,000-square-foot Provident Mutual Life Insurance Building, will house the Police Headquarters, the Medical Examiner's Office and Morgue, and the Department of Public Health Laboratory Services. While the building will stay put, an auditorium and a powerhouse will be demolished and replaced with a Central Utility Plant, reports Plan Philly. In addition, the PSSC is also commissioning public art that will be featured in the new public plaza. Oh, and you can rest easy: That cool clock tower isn't going anywhere. · City commissioning new public art at 46th and Market [Plan Philly]
