Demolition has begun of the Locust Medical Center, the now-dilapidated building at the corner of 52nd and Locust. The bizarre, beautiful, and extremely unsafe structure has become somewhat of a local attraction after it was heavily damaged by a fire and extreme ice build-up during the extinguishing process last week. Via the West Philly Local, "the Department of Licenses and Inspections ordered the demolition because of the structural damage caused by the fire and the weight of the ice (inside and outside)." So here it is, folks: one last look at the meat and potatoes of our Instagram feeds over the last week. Better be glad L&I moved so quickly on this one. We dare say we would have been down a few #urbex-ers had they not.
