Archdiocese to Demolish Fishtown's Saint Laurentius Church

New, 3 comments

Kneel down to pray for the fate of Saint Laurentius Catholic Church. After 133 years, this icon of Polonia (meaning Polish heritage in the city) will be seeing the next life.
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced that the Polish church, built in 1882, would be torn down. Citing issues of structural decline since it merged with Holy Name of Jesus parish in September 2013 and closed completely in March 2014, the cost is too great to save it at $3.5 million versus demolition of $1 million.
