Philly rent comparison: What $1,600 rents right now

From a 1BR Brewerytown loft to a house with secret gardens in Roxborough

Welcome back to Curbed Comparisons, a dive into the options available for a certain price point in various Philly neighborhoods. Is one person's loft another person’s townhouse? Let's find out! Today's price: $1,600/month.

Brewerytown (1 bed, 1 bath)—This bi-level loft features wood floors and a living room with a fireplace, plus a fenced-in patio. The bath and kitchen were recently updated. It’s pet-friendly, too, so you can take your pup to the nearby Lemon Hill Park and Kelly Drive.

Society Hill (1 bed, 1.5 baths)—This recently updated apartment’s $1,590 monthly rent pays for a great location. Located at 4th and Walnut, it’s very close to Washington Square, Independence Hall, and the El. Plus, it’s pet-friendly and has laundry in the unit.

Graduate Hospital (2 beds, 1 bath)—A spiral staircase connects the large living room of this apartment to the bedroom above, and both rooms open onto their own small balconies with partial city views. The location is south of South Street and cats and small dogs are allowed.

Olde Kensington (2 beds, 1.5 baths)—Close to Frankford Avenue, the EL, and several blocks from Frankford Hall, this newly renovated house has a lot of perks: Laundry, a renovated kitchen and extra bathroom, plus a fenced patio accessible via French doors. Pets are welcome with a deposit, and a security system is included.

Roxborough (2 bed, 1 bath)—This twin house comes with its own secret garden—front and back. Inside, there’s a large island kitchen, which opens onto the back deck and the main bedroom is a good size. The house is located close to Gorgas Park and about 10 blocks from the fun of Main Street.
