Report: Philly is the best city for trick-or-treating

Plus: The top 5 neighborhoods to trick-or-treat

Philly is the place to be this Halloween—if you’re under 10 years old and are looking to fill your bag with the most candy in the shortest amount of time.

For the first time, Zillow has named Philadelphia as the number one city in the U.S. for trick-or-treating. San Jose, California and San Francisco came in second and third, respectively.

"Single-family homes are especially dense in Philadelphia, pushing the city to the top of the list, up 12 spots from 2015," the researchers write.

Here’s how our city won the Halloween honor: Zillow looked at home values, single-family home density, neighborhood safety, and the age of residents in each city and neighborhoods. After crunching the numbers, they determined which 20 cities were the best places for children to get the most candy in the shortest amount of time.

They also took it a step further and determined the top five neighborhoods for trick-or-treating in Philly. Here’s what they found:

Hmm. We’re a little surprised by that list given that it’s almost completely different from last year’s, which named Fairmount/Spring Garden, Chestnut Hill, Cedar Park, Mount Airy and Manayunk as the best neighborhoods.

Even if a Philly neighborhood isn’t in the top five, the researchers say one easy way to find the best spot for trick-or-treating is to look for streets with homes decked out in Halloween decor.
