The Society Hill home where James and Dolley Madison lived before becoming president and First Lady of the United States has been sold for $2.9 million, becoming one of the most expensive home sales in Philadelphia so far this year.
That’s $300,000 under its original asking price when it listed for $3.2 million in May.
The stunning Federal-style home features four bedrooms and 4.5 baths and is a spacious 3,145 square feet. The Madisons lived here from 1794 to 1797, and over the years owners have preserved much of the home’s architectural details, while also making a few significant changes, including the addition of a New Orleans-style back porch.
