A massive single-family home in Society Hill, just blocks away from Independence Hall, has just hit the market for $16,795,000, becoming the most expensive home currently for sale in Philadelphia.
"It’s the most expensive home I've ever known by far," say listing agent Mike McCann. "Probably the greatest, too."
Built just 16 years ago, the home clocks in at 5,400 square feet and features just two bedrooms, two full baths, and two half baths. The surprisingly small number of bedrooms—one is the master, the other is a guest suite—leaves extra room for huge walk-in closets and dressing rooms, as well as a balcony off the master that looks out to the property’s equally large garden.
There’s also a temperature-controlled wine cellar, a game room in the basement, and a staggering five-car garage out back that’s accessible via a covered walkway from the house.
If the home were to sell at its current asking price, it could very well be the second most expensive residential sale in Philly’s history. The most expensive sale took place just this past June, when Tom Scannapieco sold the 8,900-square-foot penthouse at 500 Walnut for a whopping $17.85 million. The most expensive home sale previous to that went for $12.5 million.
