Here’s a bright spot of news for this non-snowstorm of a day: Parks on Tap will return to Philly’s public spaces in May, with more locations and dates than the year before.
The official opening date is Wednesday, May 17, which will be right in the middle of the LOVE Your Park Week, Fairmount Park Conservancy and the Parks and Recreation department said in an announcement today.
Parks on Tap debuted for the first time last year, bringing a mobile beer garden with modular furniture to various green spaces in Philly from June to October. The program was so successful—some 30,000 people came out—that this year they decided to start earlier and expand its reach to more locations.
While the actual park locations are still being finalized, at least 20 places are expected to host Parks on Tap. “In some cases, the beer garden will be set up at highly trafficked areas, like Schuylkill Banks, but in others it will be tucked away in neighborhood parks, giving lots of residents a chance to see their park in a different light,” said Kathryn Ott Lovell, Commissioner of Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, in a statement.
Like last year, FMC Hospitality will take the lead on the food and beverage operations. They’ll bring their mobile beer garden to the parks on Wednesdays through Sundays.
Parks on Taps’ closing date will be Sunday, October 1.
