Just on the edge of the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood lies the 2200 block of Saint James Street, one of the many lovely side streets that cut through the city’s grid. Now, one of the homes with ties to local famed architect Frank Furness is on the market.

The home at 2203 Saint James was designed by Furness around 1876, according to records. Indeed, both the home’s exterior and interiors feature a smattering of Furness’ typical whimsical architectural details.

The exterior of the home is very symmetrical, with the double doors centered and flanked by two windows. The 2,800-square-foot home itself is filled with original details, including hardwood floors, intricately designed fireplace mantels (quite typical of Furness), and plenty of French doors.

Despite the home’s age, the current sellers have added some updates to the property, which features four bedrooms, three full baths, and one half bath. These include a gym on the lower level, and a sauna on the fourth floor. There are also two parking spaces that come with the deed over located one block away.

The asking price of the home is $1,425,000.
