Yesterday the City Controller Office released the latest numbers on residential sales in Philadelphia, BillyPenn first reported. And they prove what we’ve been saying for months now: Philly’s real estate market is still hot.
The report found that in May 2017 alone, 1,641 homes sold in Philadelphia. That’s a 16 percent increase from last year’s May.
Where are all of these home selling like hot cakes? The zip code of 19146, which recorded 102 sales, the most out of all neighborhoods. That zip code includes “hottest neighborhood of the year” Point Breeze and Grays Ferry, which local real estate agents deemed as one of the five neighborhoods to watch in this Curbed Philly report from October 2016.
In fact, South Philly in general is where all of the action happened in May. The top four zip codes were all located in South Philly, which accounted for 20 percent of all home sales.
Also on the top 10 list were the zip codes that include Fishtown, named the Curbed Cup Neighborhood of the Year, and Kensington, which has also experienced a big boom in development.
Interestingly, the Roxborough-Manayunk zip codes also cracked the top 10 list, as did the North Philly neighborhoods around Fox Chase/Burholme, Rhawhurst, and Mayfair.
Here’s the full list of zip codes that recorded the most home sales in May.
