Developer Bart Blatstein has proposed developing a six-building complex at Second Street and Germantown Avenue in Northern Liberties on a part of the former Schmidt brewery site that he has owned for years.

The buildings would hold nearly 1,200 apartments and 45,000 square feet of retail and restaurants. They would be connected, and would surround a pedestrian plaza, per Jacob Adelman at Philly.com.

The development would also have a 500-spot garage apparently hidden from public view.

This proposal from Blatstein supplants an earlier one for the 4.4-acre site, which would have included about 600 apartments in three buildings.

The current idea needs the requisite city sign-offs, but it does enjoy local support from the Northern Liberties Neighbors Association. If all goes according to the developer’s plans, construction could start by the end of March 2019. Stay tuned.
