SEPTA’s fifth annual Trolley Tunnel Blitz is back this month, with closures that will shut down the Center City tunnel to five major trolley routes.
For commuters, the blitz is not as exciting as its name suggests. It’s a nearly 10-day event, starting at 10 p.m. on July 13 and ending 4 a.m. July 23. During that time, SEPTA shuts down the Center City tunnel to trolley routes 10, 11, 13, 34, and 36 in order to give workers time to complete track and station improvements.
Trolley service will start and end at 40th and Market Streets, where commuters can then grab the EL into Center City, according to a statement from SEPTA.
Among the improvements to the track and stations around the Center City tunnel, SEPTA plans to install energy-efficient lighting, remove graffiti, repair water leaks, replace a track switch, and clear clogged track drains.
