A second Philly location for the popular grocery store chain, Trader Joe’s, could be in the works, though it’s still in its early stages.
The grocery chain is currently looking at plans to build a new store on Arch Street, across from the Convention Center, according to Philly.com, who broke the news earlier this week. Kenya Friend-Daniel, a spokesperson for Trader Joe’s told Philly.com that they’re interested in the location but said she wasn’t sure whether a lease had been signed on the space.
The lot they’re considering is the ground floor of a parking garage at 1324 Arch Street, which has nearly 16,000 square feet of available retail space, Philly.com reported.
If the plans go forward, it will be the second Trader Joe’s in the city, following the ever-popular location on 22nd between Market and JFK.
The news follows several other high-profile grocery store developments that have come to the city within the last few years. First, there was a Whole Foods which opened on the Parkway in 2016, then Aldi’s leased out 25,000 square feet in a development behind Divine Lorraine just last year. A Sprouts made its Philly debut at Broad and Market late last summer, and a Giant is planning its grand opening in Graduate Hospital tomorrow.
