New Comcast Tower, 3675 Market among recipients of excellence award

Given by the Urban Land Institute

Several of the Philly-area’s most talked-about buildings this year were just recognized by the Urban Land Institute (ULI) for their excellence in design and community impact.

The Comcast Technology Tower, uCity Square’s first building at 3675 Market, and the American Water Headquarters in Camden all received the ULI’s 2019 Willard G. “Bill” Rouse III Awards for Excellence last week. The award, which was also given to MaKen Studios North and South and PHS LandCare, is named after noted Philly builder Bill Rouse, who created Liberty Property Trust, and is known for helping shape the Philly skyline with structures like One Liberty Place.

The award is meant to honor buildings and developers who, “represent excellence in achieving scale, creating significant community impact, elevating real estate standards in the city and representing models of innovation and leadership,” according to ULI. The five recipients were chosen from a list of 13 finalists that included the Rail Park, Lincoln Square, and 2400 Market (also known as the Aramark Headquarters).

Of their decision to choose the new Comcast building, arguably the most well-known winner, ULI called the tower “bold” and said that it, “makes urban links by connecting directly to the subway system, limiting vehicular parking, and incorporating art.”
