Prolific midcentury modern architect Louis Kahn made a short but indelible mark on and around the city of Philadelphia.

From the famous Esherick House in Chestnut Hill, to the Fisher house in Hatboro, Kahn was known for playing with natural light, angles, and nature in his designs.

And now, one of his pieces is available to own for $1 million.

The Shapiro House, a five-bed, 3.5-bath home at 417 Hidden River Road in Penn Valley just came on the market. It’s being sold by the family for whom it was first designed in 1960 and comes with the documentation to authenticate.

The house, built on the side of a hill, exhibits a lot of Kahn’s classic modern touches, from a wood facade to floor-to-ceiling windows that connect the interior with the surrounding forest. The main floor features the living and family areas, while the lower level holds the sleeping areas.

The home is being shown by Rich Goldberg of BHHS Fox Roach.
